Description

This is what a spiral galaxy looks like sideways.  It’s a view of an edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 3828, AKA The Hamburger Galaxy.  The name no doubt comes from the galactic disk sandwiching its dark dust lanes.  This is in the same astronomic neighborhood as two other large spiral galaxies, M65 and M66 in a grouping known as the Leo Triplet.  Gravitational interactions between the three are likely responsible for the extended flare, warp and tail of this spiral’s disk.
