Description

The M96 Group (also known as the Leo I Group) is a group of galaxies in the constellation Leo. This group contains between 8 and 24 galaxies. It also contains the Leo Ring. The group is one of many groups that lies within the Virgo Supercluster (the combined Local Group and Virgo cluster).

This conspicuous group of galaxies contains 3 Messier objects (M95, M96, and M105), plus a larger number of fainter galaxies (including NGCs 3299, 3377, 3384, 3412 and 3489 as well as UGC 5889, which is also called NGC 3377A.

This was a "fill-in" target when I imaged M78 recently and it went into the trees just after the meridian. I was imaging with the uv/ir cut filter and the moon had retreated below the horizon in the west.

Not too sure how this would look wide field or if there would be any discernable details in M95 and M96. I haven't imaged this area before and the results are better than I expected for the short integration time of 3:55 in my Bortle 7 backyard.

This is my wide field snapshot!

Thanks for looking!
