Description

At a relatively near distance of only ~46 million light years, NGC 2841 is remarkably devoid of much color, but displays good dust details.   This unbarred spiral galaxy is described by multiple sources as a prototypical flocculent, meaning it's arms are tight and relatively indistinguishable.   Having an extent of over 8 arcminutes, the galaxy's size is estimated at ~120,000 light-years  diameter (larger than the Milky Way galaxy).   It contains a fairly large number of young, giant blue stars, which are thought to have cleared out most of the HII regions in the galaxy and shunted further star formation.
