Description

This was a bit of a disappointing capture. The whole event took place in August of 2021 and seeing was absolutely terrible. I captured around 4 hours of data hoping to acquire some semblance of reasonable captures. As the actual eclipse and transit took place, seeing slightly improved enabling me to produce this animation. However, some parts of the frames were so bad I omitted them from the animation so hence why it seems to jump suddenly in parts. Chris Go managed to capture this with excellent seeing, so if you want to see how this should have looked, go visit his website.

Basically what you are seeing in this animation is a triple moon transit event with Jupiter's moon Ganymede occulting Europa, followed by Ganymede Eclipsing Europa. Eventually you see both Ganymede's and Europa's shadows join together on the planet and then separate. Callisto is seen moving toward the right edge of the screen. Eventually, you'll see Io popping out from behind Jupiter's left
