Description

This image was meant to be a practice run. It was my first time imaging a comet with a mono camera and I had plans to capture a close pass of Messier 3 the following morning, but when I got up early in the morning on December 3rd, I was fogged in hard, so I made due with the previous night's data. Here is what my work flow looked like:

Acquisition:
  • Looped RGBL 60s x 13 using NINA

Post Processing:
  • Stacked each filter separately on background stars in DSS
  • Combined in PS
  • Adjusted levels/curves/denoise
  • Put resultant RGBL image through starnet++
  • Took resultant comet-only image and subtracted it from starnet++ input to get starfield only image
  • Restacked each filter separately stacked on comet this time
  • Combined starless RGB comets in PS
  • Ran it through RGB starnett++
  • Masked out stars/healed where necessary
  • Adjust levels/curves/denoise of comet only
  • Added comet only back to starfield
  • Ran lum stacked on comet through starnet++
  • Added comet lum data back on top of combined image
  • Crop/brightness/etc
