Description

Cosmic Bubble: A massive bubble is being blown outwards into space by a central super-hot, massive star in this picture of the aptly named “Bubble Nebula”, or NGC 7635. The diameter of the bubble is 7 lightyears, which is about 1.5 times the distance from our sun to the nearest star: Alpha Centauri. The object is located at 7,000-10,000 lightyears from earth

The Bubble itself is the result of a massive star (45x the mass of our sun) expelling a superhot stellar wind, which moves over 4 million miles per hour, sweeping up cold, interstellar gas as it expands outwards.

The image was taken in November of last year from my rooftop in Tokyo, Japan with a apo refractor and cooled DSO camera.
