Description

This is an image of a large supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus. The Cygnus Loop consists of three large nebulae. From top to bottom in this image, the nebulae are the Eastern Veil Nebula, Pickering's Triangle, and the Western Veil Nebula. The supernova explosion was estimated to have occurred between 5,000 and 8,000 years ago. The Cygnus Loop is between 1,400 and 2,600 light years from Earth.
