Description

This is a montage of the region of the Lagoon Nebula with a superimposed photo of the moon at about the correct phase and scale to show the (surprising) size of the "faint fuzzies" we look at and photograph. The background image is HRGB and the moon is a simple SLR photograph. There was a bit of fiddling to get the moon somewhat right involving extensive rescaling, dynamic cropping, GAME script and painting of the shadow edge in Pixinsight. The composition itself was worked out in advance with SkySafari Pro. The background image I had already on hand but the moon photo had to be taken as close to the correct time as possible.

The next step is to get an image of the Blue Horsehead which was in the background of the recent lunar eclipse and go through the same routine.
