Description

I've been wanting to capture Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) for several weeks, but had nothing but clouds any time it was above my trees. Finally early morning on Tuesday, January 31st I had clear skies and two hours between moonset and sunrise where the comet was visible from one corner of my yard. Captured with a Canon 5DIV and 500mm f/4L telephoto lens, controlled by an intervelometer and mounted on my vintage AP900HDA.

Title: Revision 1

Description: I was not convinced that I had gotten all I could out of these subs, so I entered them back into Astro Pixel Processor and ran them through the comet stacking registration routine. I had wondered if a lower kappa high setting would reject more star trails, so I dropped it significantly to 1.5 (I used the adaptive rejection algorithm) and the result was a much cleaner comet image. As a result, I was able to pull more out of the ion tail and the anti-tail before blending the stars back in.
