Description

Most amateur astronomers know of the Leo Triplet and the Draco triplet, but NGC 4206,  NGC 4216 and NGC 4222 in Virgo is another triplet that is often overlooked by both visual observers and imagers. The largest of the three, in the center is NGC 4216, which is one of the largest and brightest spiral galaxies of the Virgo Cluster, with an absolute magnitude that has been estimated to be −22 (i.e.: brighter than the Andromeda Galaxy). It is 55 million light years away. It has approximately 700 globular clusters, nearly five times more than the Milky Way.
