Description

M16, Eagle Nebula, (also cataloged as NGC6611), is a major active star-forming region in the constellation Serpens. IC4703, at its center, is a diffuse emission nebula coincident with the famous Pillars of Creation (Hubble Space Telescope photo in 1995).
It has a visual magnitude of +6.40 and an apparent size of 35.0 x 28.0 arcmin. It is at a distance of about 5,700 light-years from Earth.
