Description

M27, commonly known as the Dumbbell Nebula, is a bright planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula. Its estimated that this nebula lies approximately 1,200 light-years from Earth. All planetary nebulae form at the end of the life of a star of intermediate mass, about 1-8 solar masses. It is expected that the Sun will form a planetary nebula at the end of its life cycle. They are a relatively short-lived phenomenon, lasting perhaps a few tens of thousands of years
