Description

This image shows five NGC galaxies - NGC 1057, 1060, 1061, 1066, and 1067 - and there is a presence of foreground interstellar material as well. Some annotations may also include NGC 1062 - but this is a simply a star in the early versions of NGC and not a galaxy.

There are several other galaxies from other catalogs in this field as well. Most of these galaxies have similar redshifts and radial velocities making them potential group members. There are eight cataloged galaxy groups covering this image field ([T2015] nest 200041, WBL 085, MLGC1403, [FK2002] 37, LGG 72, [CHM2007] HDC 165, [TKT2016] 213, [TKK2018] 1026).  Most galaxies in this field find themselves as members of at least one of these groups - some are members of many of these groups.

There are also many background galaxies that are visible in the full size image. The furthest objects are the Quasars (all candidates in this image) and their distances range from 8.206 to 10.24 billion years (Lookback).  These objects, information, background galaxies, and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.
