Description

Planetary nebula NGC 6826, the Blinking Planetary.

When viewing through an eyepiece, direct vision will only allow you to see the very bright core.  It is starlike and can be mistaken for a star.  When you look away, peripheral vision will show you the dimmer outer nebula, and it is obvious that it is a planetary.  The nebula blinks on and off, depending where in the field of view you look.
