Description

One of the lesser known spiral galaxies visible from the southern hemisphere, NGC 3621 is uncommon for its lack of a central bulge. While spectrographic data from the Spitzer telescope indicates the galaxy contains a supermassive black hole, the galaxy lacks the central bulge usually associated with that feature. Appearing in the constellation, Hydra, this galaxy is estimated to be 22 million light years distant, but not associated with any galaxy group. It is interesting to scan the remainder of the field of view and notice the great number of background galaxies present. For example, the tiny barred, spiral galaxy just to the right of  the main subject of this image.
