Description

20210716 - IC1805 - The Heart Nebula

What was the experience
While the TS94 was having its ‘First Light’ shooting the Crescent nebula, the RedCat51 was having a ‘First’ of its own as well: a new pair of legs - the SW EQ6-R Pro. I had ordered it back in March for the TS94, but it got delayed, and delayed, and delayed. I switched to the CEM70G as the solution for the TS94, and just at that moment the EQ6-R Pro popped in 3 months earlier than forecast anyway. While the CEM70G was easy to set up (thanks to the iOptron SkyGuider Pro experience), I had my share of hassle at first with the EQ6-R Pro. Eventually it all worked out, and both scopes had their ‘First’ together, capturing photons in the night while being guided by these new mounts.

What’s in the picture(s)IC1806 - The Heart Nebula - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_Nebula
Quote: “The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, Sharpless 2-190, is some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was discovered by William Herschel on 3 November 1787.[1] It is an emission nebula showing glowing ionized hydrogen gas and darker dust lanes.[2]”

How it was done
Mount: SW EQ6-R Pro
Guiding: ASIAIR Pro, ZWO30F4, ASI120MM (RA guiding only - still haven’t properly connected the mount yet)
Scope: WO RedCat 51
Camera: ASI183MC ProResolution: 1,98”/pixel, FoV 218’
Filter: Optolong L-Extreme
Moon n/a (already set), Bortle 5/6 SQM 19.60
Photons:  Gain 125, cooling -10, 300s, 31x
Darks 31x - from a previous session
Processing: Siril, Adobe Photoshop (Mac) - Quick&Dirty processing, no sub-selection
Astrobin:
IG: @astrowaut

What have
I learned from thisIt takes a bit of planning to set up 2 rigs for the night: finding each their own space with a clear path to the sky, Polar aligning them both, planning what to shoot and how, which in turn depends or determines which camera to use (depending on FoV and resolution). The organisation skills are getting a boost 😂

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭

Title: Reprocess: bringing the heart back to life

Description: 20220106 - Cloudy Nights = Education time 🤩 - IC1805 (CAS) - Having a new heart

While clouds continue to shroud the nights, I’m learning to bring an old heart beating back to life … The Heart Nebula, from July 18, 2021

These re-processings continue to help me learn how to improve the color-palette, pixelmath combinations with formula’s such as fornaxx, etc … This was re-processed using the EZ processing suite, splitting the stretched image, R as Ha, G as Oiii, applying the SHO and HOO fornaxx-formula, and blending that together. Ha as Luminance and finishing off with curves and local histogram.

This heart is beating back to life again …
