Description

SH2-229, IC 405 The Flaming Star Nebula1500 light years away this nebula is lit by AE Aurigae, the blue star in the “head” of the nebula. It has both Hydrogen (red) and some Oxygen (blue-green) emission but also most of the blue in the image is reflection of the bright blue of the star due to dust in the area. This particular combination is a mix of 90 minutes of 90 sec images of the stars in natural, no filter RGB and 11.5 hours of 300 sec HO dual band images. Very little (but some) moon to interfere. The RGB stars were taken when there were very thin high clouds giving that fuzzy color halos around the brighter stars.
