Description

I had an evening of light winds and decent seeing and was able to capture Mars fairly well (for me anyway) using the 10-inch Newtonian. The north pole was covered by a plainly visible polar cloud. I recorded 37 25-s videos at 86 fps for a total of 79550 frames. Of these, 20 frames were kept per video for a total of 740 stacked frames.

Description: With apologies to my planetary imaging colleagues for my ignorant naivete, I did not realize what a difference de-rotation with WinJUPOS makes when stacking planetary images. I noticed in reviewing some of my recent sub images at scales larger than thumbnail size that I could see the rotation of the albedo features! Hence I learned how to use WinJUPOS and gave it a whirl with that data set. As the revised image shows, it made a huge difference. And now Mars is slipping away! Rats ...
