Description

C64 is an attractive open cluster in Canis Major. It is dominated by the 4.3 magnitude Tau Canis Major and comprises 100-150 members stars. It is one of the youngest known clusters, estimated to be 4-5 million years old.

The residual chromatic aberration of the ES apochromatic refractor presents challenges, particularly for the brightest stars. Decomposing the RGB image to LAB and substituting the original green channel for the luminosity before reconstructing the coloured image helped to reduce the star halos.

Collected with a bright moon in the sky, the short integration time was a refreshing change from recent 30+ hour galaxy imaging marathons.
