Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Camelopardalis at a declination of +84 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11.5 galaxy which spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years.

We are viewing this disk about 30 degrees from edge-on.  The disk is interesting – 2 strong arms depart from the core but only extend for about half a rotation.  There is a 3-D helix look to these arms that is difficult to describe – it looks like a small spring to me.   The outer disk is diffuse with a few small regions interspersed in the disk.

The outer disk has a bit of a hexagon shape to it.
