It's the Binary Apotizer
It looks like some sort of ninja weapon
It's purpose is to REMOVE diffraction spikes from a telescope with spider vanes (I'm not sure if it's just for Newts, or all scopes with vanes)
Isn't that crazy?
It looks like this:
and once one of those things go on every spider vane, it does this:
(left image is without the Apotizer, the right is with the Apotizer)
And the Newtonian (for example) still has the spider vanes!
Very weird phenomenon that looks very illogical; I'll never understand it.
But it's true.

only because I was using skyeye's bahtinov mask tool yesterday, I'm thinking these should be easy to print, no? (provided the dimensions are correct)

Any solution to "remove" diffraction spikes just redirects the diffraction somewhere else. For example, circular spiders direct it out everywhere, reducing overall contrast.
This device apparently attempts to redirect the diffraction back towards the star. Some experimentation would be required to work out what effect that has on overall star shapes and image resolution.

Hi everybody, this is my solution. It worked very well in removing the spikes but it clearly reduces contrast and resolution so I won’t use it anymore.

Thank you for your comment. What I noticed is that the stars are just bigger than without the masks, under the same conditions. I clearly noticed that with the masks the stars are bigger and also the small structures are less detailed. I have to investigate more, maybe with some double stars or similar objects, but I think that the system works better without the masks.

By the way it would be "apodizator" (if such a word existed as it does not). From apodization -> "be without foot", the technique of removing the "wings" from diffraction pattern of a circular aperture.

Because it is something quite doable, physics is quite straightforward. I guess there is a convenience problem here? Since every reflector has slight differences, it might be hard to have commercially available versions that would satisfy many. Or is it just there wasn't enough public attention?

I image with an AltAz system that would benefit a lot from a mask that removes the spikes because managing long sessions and also different channels with an AltAz system, even if with a derotator, it is difficult. What I noticed all the time I used my specific masks that I showed in the picture before, is less resolution and less contrast respect to not using them. Is there a way to calculate if it is really this way and also it is true that there is a reduction of the performances of the telescope with this kind of masks as I noticed? in particular, under the same conditions so for example within 10 minutes in the same night, I tried to look at some narrow double stars, visually and imaging, and also other details of object as detailed as planetary nebula, and I noticed the reduction of the performances above mentioned. What is your opinion about that? I still wanted to find a solution and to use this kind of masks.

Apodization masks tend do remove the visible effects of spiders' diffraction but at the price of increasing the central peak fwhm and hence lower your resolution. My bent spider doesn't reduce resolution but diffuses the diffracted light onto two opposite lobes. But to answer your question, yes it can be calculated from the theoretical point of view but it won't much help you in practical terms as you don't have an ideal perfect instrument. I'd have to brush up my Fourier optics analysis memories and skills though...

But when comparing the solutions, this is not the best way to do it. I'd say, this is a cool way to do it, maybe fun to think for physicist. But if I were you, instead of looking for such solutions, I'd definitely try to address the root of this issue which is the Alt-Az system. And I do understand that is neither a practical solution...
