Description

The "Pillars of Creation" refer to a famous astronomical formation located in the Eagle Nebula (also known as M16), in the constellation of Serpens, approximately 7,000 light-years away from Earth in the Milky Way. These pillars are columnar structures of gas and dust that stretch for several light-years in space. They are sculpted by the intense ultraviolet radiation emitted by nearby young and massive stars. Each pillar is a stellar nursery, where new stars are in the process of formation, condensing from the surrounding material. These pillars are studied by astronomers, providing insights into the processes of star formation and the evolution of interstellar gas and dust regions.
