Description

H alpha captures taken on 6/21/20, 6/26/20 and 6/29/20.

M16, the Eagle Nebula, is a star cluster around 2 million years young surrounded by clouds of dust and glowing gas. It is about 7000 light years from Earth. The largest dense, dusty columns described as “Pillars of Creation” are light years in length, but are gravitationally contracting to form stars. Energetic radiation from the cluster stars erodes material near the tips, eventually exposing the embedded new stars. To the left of the pillars is another dusty star forming column or spire known as the the“Fairy of Eagle Nebula.” The small dark areas are believed to be protostars (Bok globules).
