Description

Sh2-124 is a large nebulous system, linked to the infrared source RAFGL 2789, which is identified with V645 Cygni, probably an O-class star or Herbig's star Ae/Be. The complex is probably located within the Orion Arm at a distance of about 8,480 light-years.

The main stars responsible for the ionization of the gases of the nebula would be a blue star of spectral class O7V and a blue star of class B2V, to which perhaps others could be added. The nebula hosts star formation processes and is, in fact, listed in the Avedisova Catalog as object number 1220; Some infrared sources have been identified in the interior, five of which have been identified by the IRAS satellite. Two masers were also detected, one with H2O emissions focused on the V645 Cygni component and one with methanol emissions.
