Description

I recently decided to try and image the pair of spiral galaxies NGC 2336 and IC 467 in Camelopardalis. My first attempt was about a week ago using 11 in SCT at F10 and ZWO ASI2600. It was a windy night with gusts of 30 MPH. I found that even with a wind barrier and removing the dew shield too many of the frames were unacceptable. So I shutdown without even doing flats. A few nights ago I tried again this time with 11 in SCT at F7 and ZWO ASI2600. I used the .8 focal reducer so that I could more easily frame the two galaxies. It was also a fairly windy night with winds about 20 MPH all night. I settled on imaging with 2 minute subs and decided to just take as many frames as possible so that I could discard any that were effected by the wind. I started imaging at 6PM (just love this time of year where I can start imaging early) and finished around 1:30AM after having taken 201 frames (2 minutes each). By this time the Moon was fairly high in the sky and fairly bright. I did use the wind break on the top of my observatory to help mitigate the winds. At 1:30AM I took 50 flats (.13 sec). I used PixIsnight for processing and used both 'Blink' and 'SubframeSelector' to discard images with high FWHM or Eccentricity. I was able to keep 179 frames, which I thought was a real success. Taking a lot of frames really helps since you can discard all of the 'sub-par' images.
