Description

This is a very widefield image of the Bubble Nebula, and surrounding regions of ionised Hydrogen, including the Lobster Claw. Also present is the open cluster M52. The bubble, whilst very small in this widefield image, is formed from a very massive star, a very hot star that has evolved off the main sequence and has very high mass loss through strong stellar winds. This wind and mass loss forms the shape of the Bubble. This type of star is called a Wolf-Rayet, and also features as the source of the Crescent Nebula.

This is quite a busy image, so I suggest having a look at the higher res version. The image is also very deep, containing many hours of Hydrogen data to reveal the faintest areas of Hydrogen emission
