Description

The Crescent Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus at 4700 LY distance and which has a very interesting bluish halo which covers the object.

I have always wanted to capture this object after seeing so many great ones on Astrobin but as it stays low when it rises here in New Zealand and trees block my line of sight where my scope is set up, it has been a difficult project.

After a bit of walking around the garden at different points in the year and having recently found a spot to image the Cygnus area, I decided to carry my scope & mount to the 'spot' at about 60 meters from its normal setup position.

Fortunately, I was able to carry out, setup and capture over 5 nights with the Crescent Nebula at around 8 to 12 degrees ALT.  I kept the exposure at 60s to minimise capture issues and subs loss due to clouds, potential trailing etc.

Given the dark skies here, the Nebula has come out fairly well for such a short integration time.  As it is now late October with sunset later in the evening, I will need to plan to capture more next year during late winter.
