Description

Rosette Nebula Widefield (Mon NGC2238 + NGC2264 et al)

This widefield is so stuffed with stars that it should be viewed at full size (100% image resolution). After having imaged the λ Ori HII Region (aka Orion's Head) in SH2-264 an hour before, Orion disappeared behind the trees on the west side of my valley. At the same time the beautiful Rosette Nebula appeared from behind the trees and mountains on the east side of the valley.

So I started immediately to capturing this wide field east of the red giant Beteigeuze – Orion's so called "left shoulder".

The stacked image looked really horrible with strong streaks of "walking noise" – rather frustrating, given the fact that the tracking was absolutely perfect ...
