Description

This is my attempt at the May 2022 Lunar Eclipse, visible in the northern hemisphere. This image is a composition between two separate exposures (one to capture the detail in the shadowed part aka the Umbra/Penumbra, and one to capture the detail in the exposed bright portion of the moon). I added stars in the background to give the image a High-Dynamic-Range type look, this decision is entirely personal preference I do with my lunar images and I'm sure not everyone agrees this should be done.

I captured this "freehand" on a tripod, as I could not use my software/ioptron CEM26 mount to automate the process as the moon was behind the trees in the earlier part of the evening, preventing me from just pointing my lens at the moon and "setting and forgetting" things . As I was not able to use my mount to lock onto the moon and track it, I had to use a relativley high ISO setting to be able to expose the dark portion of the moon enough, creating lots of unwanted noise.
