Gathered a little over 23 hours worth of data in the Luminance, Red, Green, Blue, and Hydrogen Alpha(Ha)
spectrums over the course of 9 nights in January and February. The very last night we had some winds pick up in
the early morning and I had to throw out most of the data that night.

Image processing:
Pixinsight’s WBPP was used for all of the preprocessing and integration. DBE was used on the L and the Ha
masters. The RGB channels were combined and then had DBE applied prior to color correction with SPCC.
The L had sharpening and noise reduction applied prior to stretching.

The RGB image channels were extracted and a starless R was subtracted from a starless Ha with a
factor of .7 using pixel math. The result was added back into the R channel at 100% and 15% added
to the B. The channels were recombined to make the HaRGB image, which was then stretched.

The L was combined with the HaRGB using LRGB combination. The CIE *L component was extracted
to use as a mask, its contrast was adjusted and then enlarged with MorphologicalTranformation and
blurred using Convolution.

With the mask applied, protecting the background, color saturation was adjusted along with curves.
The mask was then inverted to allow background contrast adjustments via curves.
LocalHistogramEqualization was used to enhance the dust lanes and UnSharpMask for a final color boost.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
