I finally got my new ASIAir Plus system set up for my William Optics 4" refractor on a Skywatcher equatorial mount. WHAT AN AMAZING SYSTEM! Sitting in the family room, warm and comfy, watching the guiding accuracy plotted in real time, images updating, key settings displayed -- ALL ON MY CELL PHONE. Wow! Polar alignment with the Air Plus is quite easy and all it takes to get it ready to slew to targets is one shot far from the pole, some plate solving and then hitting GOTO. It took a couple of automatic re-centers, but there it was: a fuzzy M1 dead center in the photographic field. I had to put up with occasional waves of thin, high clouds and some messing with the dither settings, so all was not perfect. In fact, due to exposures that were too short (I didn't trust the guiding yet) and the clouds, I couldn't get anything useful out of Muniwin with regard to variable stars. The short exposures (30 s and 60 s also hampered signal-to-noise in processing). M1 was quite small in the field, so I probably shouldn't have employed the field flattener/reducer (failed to do my homework here), but nonetheless with a lot of processing I was able to pull out some resolution of structure in the nebula despite the wide field view. Because of the good range of the WIFI from the Air Plus and its handle-everything design, I can take the scope out in one trip with no computer needed. The ultimate in armchair astrophotography!

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
