Description

My first summer Milky Way dark nebula image…

Lynd’s Dark Nebula (LDN) 673 is a highly fractured and very dense dark cloud complex about 600 light years from Earth in Aquila.  It is located near the center of the Aquila Rift – a mass of dark molecular clouds along the summer Milky Way through Aquila, Serpens and eastern Ophiuchus.  The density of the molecular cloud makes the stars appear reddish and the material is associated with active star formation.  A couple of objects visible within LDN 673 include the small red tinted reflection nebula RNO 109 (GN 19.18.0) at lower left center as well as Herbig-Haro (HH) 32 near the young T-Tauri star V1352 at upper left center.    (credit - AAPOD2: LDN 673 & LDN 684)
