Description

Some recent clear nights let me get out and capture the one day old Type II Supernova - SN 2023ixf - that is in the M101 Pinwheel galaxy - a mere 21 million light years away.  First observed on Friday (May 19) night (Astronomers Have Spotted a Once-in-a-Decade Supernova--and You Can, Too - Scientific American).  This occurs when a star runs out of fuel and collapses into a neutron star or black hole. I was able to get almost two nights of data (May 21-22), but smoke from fires in Canada were obstructing the view. I highlighted what appears to us as the new star. Shot on my EdgeHD 11 (280mm) at f/7 (FL=1960 mm). This is a L HaRGB image of the galaxy. I got about 10 hours of exposure time, but less than 50% was usable due to smoke and clouds.
