Description

the less known open star cluster Collinder 470 is located in the Cocoon Nebula - IC 5146 in the constellation Swan.

The Cocoon Nebula is a combination of emission, reflection and absorption nebulae. More recent theories say that the massive star BD + 46 ° 3474 in the centre of the nebula has provided transparency in the molecular cloud. This very beautiful and normally difficult object is located at the end of the dark nebula Barnard 168.

The active star formation in the cloud leads to the formation of a young open star cluster called Collinder 470 with an estimated age of several hundred thousand years.
