Description

NGC6751 is a small planetary nebula, with the bright core that is 24 x 27 arc seconds across. The nebula has a total magnitude of 15.48 mag(V), giving it a fairly high surface brightness. Good data from data release 3 of the Gaia mission lists a parallax of 0.2908±0.0447 for the bright prominent central progenitor star, which works out to a distance of about 11,210 light years. At this distance, the nebula should be 1.5 light years across, which is about right for a bright young planetary nebula like this one. Its nice when all the data fits together well!

Beyond the bright core nebula, there are a pair of faint H-alpha bipolar jets to the left and right of the nebula. There is also a faint cloud of nebula emission to the northwest, which is barely visible here. It probably would have shown up better if the Moon hadn't been fairly bright at the time I captured the Duoband data. I am not sure if this actually related to the nebula. It would have to have been some sort of earlier pre-planetary nebula mass ejection.

The star colors come from the IRCut data I collected, while the nebula is a combination of both the IRCut+Duoband data. I was experimenting with different exposures to see what would beat seeing the best when imaging at the full 2900 focal length when not using a focal reducer. As a result, I made myself some extra work to properly combine the various data sets into a single image. Each sub was a live-stack captured with Sharpcap using either 2 or 4 second exposures.
