This image of Sh2-188 was taken over two nights in early October. Just under two hours of Ha data was taken on October 2 and 1.5 hours of RGB data was taken on October 3. I originally took two hours of SII and an hour of OIII data the first night, but was not happy with the SHO result, so I went back for RGB data on the second night.

The image was taken through an Explore Scientific 127ED at f/7.5 using a Hotech SCA field flattener with an ASI1600mm Pro. The image comprises:

Ha: 23 x 300s

R: 10 x 180s

G: 10 x 180s

B: 10 x 180s

Sh2-188 is a planetary nebula that wasn't discovered until the mid-20th century. Sometimes called the Shrimp or Dolphin Nebula it is estimated to be about 850 light years distant and over 22,000 years old.

This was my first attempt at Sh2-188. Actually, I wasn't even aware it existed and had planned to image Sh2-157 (the Lobster Claw). However, while taking test shots, I realized that at f/7.5, I couldn't comfortably fit all of Sh2-157 in the 127ED's FOV, so I looked around for a more convenient target. Sh2-188 appeared on a list of Sh2 targets in Cassiopeia and seemed a better fit, so I gave it a shot.

Despite the relatively short exposure time, I am pleased with the results. I will try to return to this object in the future to obtain more SHO data.
