Description

The Pleiades or the Seven Sisters (AKA Subaru) is surrounded by a reflection nebula which is blue since that is the dominant color of the hot blue stars in this region which have formed there in the last 100 million years.  This constellation has been widely known to ancient civilizations and has been considered an important feature of the night sky to nearly all of them.  It is featured in many interesting artifacts and art of these civilizations.

This was taken either at Lmuma Creek campground on the Yakima River or Brooks Memorial Park in Goldendale.  The data was acquired in November of 2020, but I processed it in December 2022. Originally I did not publish this due to a few issues which still exist but which I have found ways to minimize to the point where at least to me they are acceptable. The main issues which stopped me from posting it originally were:

1. Microlensing on the ZWO ASI 1600mm pro seen around the largest stars
2. Halos on the lower quality ZWO filters surrounding many of the bright stars in the image

Aside from the issues I feel like this image has a lot going for it, there is sharp and interesting detail in the nebulosity around the star cluster, and overall the color is quite nice.
