Description

The Lion Nebula in Cepheus

Never tried this nebula before but was tipped off by the recommended July targets from YouTuber AstroFarsography.

This is a rich target with plenty of altitude for Northern Hemisphere observers. The nebulosity lies mostly within the plane of the Milky Way, so additional processing was needed to handle the very dense star field. Once again, Adam Block's Star Reduction technique in PixInsight proved very useful to morph stars down to smaller sizes without creating many halos or artifacts. For anyone attempting this celestial object, I would recommend collecting ample amounts of OIII data, to yield the nice blues highlighted in the Hubble Palette color scheme. Unfortunately, quality integration time this summer has been limited in the NE USA , with many overcast nights and opaqueness of sky caused by the western wildfires.
