For this image, I wanted to see how many other galaxies I could put in the same frame as the famous Andromeda! I used all possible filters (including IR-Pass) to capture galaxies at any wavelength with as high details as I could.
The result was surprising! Many, many other galaxies in a variety of colors and shapes. The Original image you see is actually STARLESS, those are GALAXIES!
To compare, version B includes stars. Hopefully, JPG compression does not destroy what you should see.
The luminance layer is a combination of Visible and IR lights, and as for the narrowband, I tried something new (at least to myself). Rather than using well-known techniques to merge them into red/green/blue layers, I did as follows;
- Processed each narrow band separately
- In Photoshop, I tried to stretch them to almost the same mid-point
- In pairs, I subtracted each from the others.
- The result (for example for H - O) will be all galaxies, stars ... removed, and only H Nebulacity remains.
- I then simply screened H and O nebulacities to the LRGB image.
