Description

Another beautiful dataset provided by @Insight Observatory and @Alpha Zhang  from the Lijiang Gemini Observatory.   This one is a 2 panel mosaic.

Capitalizing on my new technique of adding narrowband data to RGB structure to enhance the image, yet retaining all broadband data such as reflection nebula, I present you the Christmas Tree in RGBHSO.     Initial processing was done on a relatively short integration of RGB data, which exposed the bright reflection area near the center of the image, as well as a few objects hovering around the tree itself.   Next step was to add the process the Ha data using a bit of LHE to enhance the wispy structures, then adding the data to the RGB image with a 95/5/5% (RGB) formula.   Next, Sii data was processed, relaxed, denoised and slightly LHE'd to enhance structure.  Adding the data onto the existing RGBHa image with a simple evenly weighted RGB formula enhanced the details of the Ha structure while maintaining color balance.   Lastly a luminance layer was extracted, Oiii was processed and added to the image, distributed among the blue channel primarily, THEN followed up by recombining the luminance layer.   This technique keeps the Oiii data from making the image look cloudy and obscuring the Ha/Sii structure.

The final result was an image that looks and feels like a broadband image, but has all the fine details provided by narrowband data.
