Description

The Draco Dwarf Galaxy is a spheroidal galaxy located 280,000 light years away, residing in our Local Group. It was discovered in 1954 by Albert George Wilson of Lowell Observatory on photographic plates from the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS).

The Draco Dwarf is extremely dim and diffuse, so my goal for this project was to gather enough data to make the galaxy standout somewhat from the background. One of the challenges I faced with this project was an early start to wildfire season in the South Western US. Although skies have been relatively clear lately they have been smokey, so I have attempted to images on nights with the best seeing and transparency at times of low moonlight. I gathered more data that I needed so that I could mercilessly reject data that did not contribute to the overall image.
