Description

March 6, 2021 - NGC3628

This is part three of the Leo Triplet galaxy group showing the third and final galaxy which is NGC3628 which is the biggest within this group, it lies at a distance of about 35 million light years from Earth and has an approximately 300,000 light-years long tidal tail.

Who is hungry because this galaxy is also called Hamburger Galaxy due to its shape, another reason for its odd edge to the left as well as that huge long tidal tail is because it is believed to be a merge of two galaxies long time ago which is very interesting, there is also an ejection from the core upward which is the visible component of an x-ray ejection plume, noted by Halton Arp as it appeared to be associated with two quasars, one at z=0.995 distance 7.5 Gly the other z=2.15 distance 10.1 Gly, M66 and NGC 3628 are the interacting pair as Arp 317.

This was a stack of 52x180sec CLS-CCD filter and 101x180sec Lum filter subs with a total exposure of 7.65 hours, I mainly used PixInSight and Luminar 4 to process it and enhance the details within the galaxy, I hope you like it.
