Description

This is a new milestone for me.  This is the first official published DSO image I've taken with my C14/AP1600AE setup.  It has take a bit of work to figure out all of the subtleties of working with a 4000 mm FL OTA.  Good grief but many thanks to CN and the Astro Physics group.io user forums I was able to figure out,, fix and go forward with the necessary changes to get things working right.  This was shot with my ASI071MC color camera.  My biggest issues initially were figuring out how to make a 4000mm telescope generate an image that can be plate solved.  I'd not thought about this when I got my C14 because I'd not done enough imaging to realize the pointing and FOV issues.  The C14 has such a small FOV that getting enough stars to allow a good plate solve solution can be quite challenging. For this shot and the foreseeable future I will be using the 0.7x reducer Celestron makes for this telescope.  The reducer increased the FOV and light sufficiently to allow for good plate solves.  I still have some smaller issues to solve so it's not smooth sailing yet but I can at least point and shoot reliably enough to allow me to go forward.
