Description

NGC 3718, also called Arp 214, is a galaxy located approximately 52 million light years from Earth.  It is the large galaxy in the center of the picture. It is either a lenticular or spiral galaxy.  NGC 3718 has a warped s-shape due to gravitational interaction between it and NGC 3729 another spiral galaxy located 150,000 light-years away from NGC 3718. This galaxy is shown in the bottom of the picture.  Also visible in the photo is part of the Hickson Group which is over 400 million light-years distant.  Located to the right of NGC 3718 near the edge of the photo are some of the galaxies including two interacting galaxies.  Others were too faint to show in the photo.
