Description

This image shows the emission nebula Sh2-284 (also known as LBN 983 - including LBN 984) .  There are other LBN objects present (LBN 986, and 987). All of these LBN's have similar cataloged coordinates - likely because in Lynds original paper gives only rough locations. However, Lynds provided other information such as size and brightness. Sh2-284 is estimated to be about 17,000 light years distant in the Milky Way's outer arm (Norma). There are some IR bubbles, [HKS2019] E80 and E84, that we can see evidence of because they have a visible spectrum emission.   These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.  Horizontal FOV is approximately 88 arc minutes.
