Description

Those of you who thought the Bubble Nebula was noisy (it was) should like this one much better. I do! It's called "Ced 214" and is an emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus. No silly name this time, as this faint nebula is often overlooked.

There's a lot going on here though. I see several dramatic pillars, wispy jets, and dark matter obscuring the glowing matter.

I shot the image last night and Thursday. It's composed of 72 ten-minute images, for 12 hours of light collection. I used filters for hydrogen and oxygen, with hydrogen mapped to red, and oxygen mapped to both green and blue. Although you don't really see green or blue, you do see white & light pink. These are areas that have both hydrogen and oxygen contributing. I'm happy with the way I was able to bring out depth, making this very faint object come into relief.
