Description

So, I started solar imaging today with my Lunt 100mm doublestack. I had experimented last weekend but came to the quick realization that it was August and I had no sun protection in the front yard. I learned. The hard way. So today, I set up in the morning next to the garage using an AZ-EQ5 in Alt/Az mode. My longer 25ft USB 3.0 cable had arrived so I hooked it up to my ASI174MM to make sure it worked. It did. This was important because it allowed me to sit in the shade inside the garage and learn something about Firecapture without roasting to death. Focusing was still hot as hell, though. Looking at adding an EAF for that later. I messed around with Firecapture and feel oriented now, but need to sharpen those capture skills. Later I tried Autostakkert and Registax for the first time. I have some research to do here as I only blindly followed a YouTube tutorial. I did some more processing in Pixinsight and finally some finishing touches in Lightroom. This pic doesn't look great but I wanted something posted as a control so I can see improvement as time goes by. So here is my first sub-standard solar pic. Fun!

Questions:
Am I missing a trick to expose the prominences? However, when I looked through a 24mm eyepiece before starting I didn't see any.
On using a focal extender? I tried using a TV 2.5 Powermate but couldn't get it to focus. What am I doing wrong?

It is now raining. Because of course, it is. The clouds also blocked out every good night of the meteor showers. Damn't.

Cheers,
Rob
