Description

Had a couple of nights of decent skies but I am a little late trying to capture these two guys as they are not above the horizon very long.  This is 2 nights of imaging, but only just over 2.5 hours.

The 2 galaxies were discovered together by Pierre Mechain in 1781 and catalogued by Charles Messier that same year.  M96 is about 41 million light years away with an estimated diameter of 66,000 light years.  M95 is one of the fainter Messier objects with a visual magnitude of 9.7 and of similar size and distance from earth as it neighbor M96.
