Description

SHO Palette with RGB Stars.

This is the first light of my Takahashi Epsilon 160ED instrument! - But wait, didn't I post already some images with my Tak 160ED here on astrobin?

Indeed, however I always struggled with coma issues and fuzzy stars, and I went through many iterations of collimation, tilt and backfocus optimizations. At some point I realized that it is maybe not my fault, so I sent the scope to the vendor for inspection. The vendor confirmed that the instrument has an optical issue, so he sent it to Takahashi for an inspection on the optical bench.
Some weeks later I got the information that Takahashi will not return my scope but indstead sent me a complete new instrument!
Shortly before Christmas the replacement arrived and I had to wait a couple of weeks until I could try it out. The new instrument arrived perfectly collimated and the optics was a big improvement over the first instrument! Camera tilt could be corrected quickly and no coma could be observed up to the corners of my full frame sensor. Also the stars were much sharper and the first test shots showed a much better image quality than the best image with the old instrument!

So here is now the first completed imaging project and I hope it shows the improvement, especially if compared to my first shot of the Rosette Nebula with the old instrument:

I am very grateful for the superb support from vendor side and a big shoutout to Takahashi for not letting me down but consequently resolving the issue!
