Description

I am surprised more people don't capture NGC 7139 as it's surface brightness is pretty strong, however pulling out the detail required a lot of time and finesse. I am pretty happy how this came out.

NGC 7139 is a Planetary Nebula 4300 lightyears away in the Cepheus constellation. NGC 7139 is situated close to the northern celestial pole and, as such, it is visible for most part of the year from the northern hemisphere. It was discovered on November 5, 1787 by astronomer William Herschel, but only in 1918 it was understood it is a planetary nebula. Its diameter is 1.4 x 1.2 arcmin with a visual magnitude 13, while the central star has magnitude 18.72.
